OTHER RESEARCH PROJECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES Other Research Projects Antisense Therapeutics is focusing on projects that target growth and vision disorders and major inflammatory diseases. Thus far, Antisense Therapeutics is focusing on a number of potential therapeutic drug targets from published scientific and clinical research. Antisense Therapeutics' analysis shows that these targets may be suitable for intervention with antisense drugs. Antisense Therapeutics has acquired from Isis an exclusive right to research these targets using Isis technology, and antisense compounds will be created by Isis. Antisense Therapeutics will then contract local and international expert groups to assess efficacy of the antisense in the relevant animal models. If and when efficacy in animals is established, Antisense Therapeutics will elevate the most promising drugs to our development pipeline for trials in humans. Details will be disclosed as such decisions are made. Other Opportunities The company will actively seek additional therapeutic targets for antisense drug development both from its own ideas and from Australian and international researchers. The directors believe that new opportunities are likely to present themselves continually with the expansion of post-genomic research into disease mechanisms. Antisense Therapeutics believes a prime advantage of antisense is the ability to quickly generate optimised lead antisense compounds. Therefore, a key aim is to rapidly create a rich supply of validated candidate drugs from which we will choose the best for clinical development.
